The amount of slut-shaming in this is disgusting. (Warning for misogynistic and anti-sex-worker language.)

Okay, people. I need you to take this viral, and fast.

We know someone in upstate New York who needs a good custody lawyer ASAP. I'm not at liberty to go into details publicly, but this woman is very afraid that her abusive boyfriend is going to get sole custody of her young child.  She's presently being represented by a public defender who doesn't seem to care about the case, and she has very few resources left at this point. Her next hearing is on Thursday.

If you know a good lawyer in New York State who might be willing to take this case for a low fee or pro bono, or at least offer her advice or support, please let me know. If you don't know anyone, please repost this far and wide. As a mother and an abuse survivor, it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to contemplate a child being left in the hands of an abuser.

I can be reached at kythryne@gmail.com if you have any leads or want to help.

The internet can work miracles. Let's go.

While studying the California driver handbook, I came across a warning: "Your driving privilege will be revoked for one year if you are...convicted of driving with a BAC of 0.01% or higher..."

For a second I was confused by the phrase "driving privilege." I imagined non-drivers reclaiming their (our) identities from the oppression of a driving-normative culture, and then I realized that the label "non-drivers" would probably be frowned upon. (POC aren't just "non-white," women aren't just "non-male," etc.) "Check your driving privilege. That term is offensive to passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation riders, and the automobile-incapable among us. Please stop erasing the diversity of the non-normative transportation community."

Oh, identity politics, I mock because I love. (I basically believe there is no conversation that cannot be improved by using the word "heteronormative." Also, my favorite parody is the time in ONTD_P when we learned to check our living privilege because "zombie" was a pejorative term for the reanimated community.)

ETA: I really wish sociological privilege worked like driving privilege. If people could have their white, male, straight, cis, able-bodied, etc. privilege revoked for a year, I have a feeling the world would be a much better place.

So I was just poking around the OTW website, and I learned that they publish a peer-reviewed journal on fannish things, and on the board of this journal is someone from UC Irvine named Rebecca Black.

Hahahahahahahahaha.

Yes, that is probably immature of me and obviously I know there are Rebecca Blacks all over, and a lot of them are probably already tired of the teasing, but. REBECCA BLACK, YOU GUYS. Imagine if she was your professor! And you had class on Friday!

...Yes, I am easily amused.

I have seven Dreamwidth invite codes! If you want one, you can comment or PM me here or on DW.

And may I say, they are most delightfully...um, alphanumeric? Sorry, it's hard to think of appealing attributes for these invite codes. Dreamwidth itself has plenty of appealing attributes, though!
